My name is Steven Brown. I have been using photography to express myself since I was 12 years old, when I stumbled upon a local camera shop and fell in love with the camera. Forty years later I still feel the same thrill when I find something I want to record with my camera. I have always tended toward the abstract in my work. I am more interested in interpreting the world around me than producing a literal document of things and places. My goal is that those viewing my work will feel engaged in the look of it without caring where or how it was done.

I attended the University of Missouri at Columbia and then Kansas City where I graduated in 1984. I earned my MFA at Savannah College of Art & Design in 1992. I have been living the life of a starving artist ever since. I currently live and work in Springfield, MO.
